HPI - SEASON 4, EPISODE 4: CHEVAL DE TROIE (TF1)

[Favourite of the Month] The fabulous Audrey Fleurot (Les combattantes, Spiral) is back as Morgane Alvaro in the fourth season of HPI, alongside an excellent cast. The first block of this new 8 one-hour episode season of TF1's record-breaking series will conclude with brilliance on June 13th.

 

The four remaining episodes will be shown by the channel this fall.

Commissaire Céline Hazan (Marie Denarnaud) must replace Commandant Fred Prigent in a hurry and she's no longer used to field work, as Lieutenant Gilles Vandraud (Bruno Sanches) and Morgane Alvaro can see when they investigate the murder of a vending machine supplier. Morgane and Gilles find out that Commandant Adam Karadec (Mehdi Nebbou) works on the financial side of the case for the fraud squad. The "red tornado" and the no-nonsense detective reluctantly team up again. Meanwhile, Céline' stress has some unexpected consequences.

 

Morgane faces the Karma pigeon, a hacker and a lawyer in this episode written by Louise Collaray, Léonor Varone, Julien Anscutter and Alice Chegaray-Breugnot. Also starring Bérangère McNeese (Daphné Forestier), Cypriane Gardin (Théa), Noé Vandevoorde (Eliott) and Cédric Chevalme (Ludovic Mullier). The talented Cédric Le Maoût returns as "Jérôme 2 de tension". Mohamed Makhtoumi is  Dr. Benzaoui, the new pathologist. HPI - SEASON 4, EPISODE 3: PENICILLIUM BREVICAULE (TF1)

[Favourite of the Month] The fabulous Audrey Fleurot (Les combattantes, Spiral) is back as Morgane Alvaro in HPI, alongside an excellent cast. The eagerly awaited season 4 of French private channel TF1's record-breaking comedy/crime drama continues.

A 85-year old crime novelist is found dead in a secret room of his house and the chief suspect is Marie Boucher, aka "Marie Besnard", an acquaintance of Morgane Alvaro (1). On the run, Marie asks Morgane to clear her name. Gilles (Bruno Sanches) has doubts over Commandant Fred Prigent (Thomas Scimeca), the successor of Karadec (Mehdi Nebbou). Built around the theme of Karma by the writers (Bérénice Bocquillon, Thomas Colineau, Julien Anscutter and Alice Chegaray-Breugnot) and director Djibril Glissant, Penicillium Brevicaule is the best episode of HPI since its launch in 2021. Its ending is astonishing.

[Favourite of the Month] The fabulous Audrey Fleurot (Les combattantes, Spiral) is back as Morgane Alvaro in HPI, alongside an excellent cast. The eagerly awaited season 4 of French private channel TF1's record-breaking comedy/crime drama started last week.

Morgane Alvaro misses an appointment at the maternity ward of the hospital and she tries to get another one when her doctor is found murdered. She must investigate with Karadec (Mehdi Nebbou) and Commandant Fred Prigent, his successor. The team suspects two young antispeciesist activists and Daphné (Bérangère McNeese) gives Morgane a lecture about "Karmic payback". This brilliant episode has great surreal sequences and a zany chase in a zoo. [Favourite of the Month][Spoiler-free review] The fabulous Audrey Fleurot (Les combattantes, Spiral) is back as Morgane Alvaro in HPI, alongside an excellent cast. The eagerly awaited season 4 of French private channel TF1's record-breaking comedy/crime drama starts on thursday with one episode per week. 

This fourth season (8 one-hour episodes) will be shown in two blocks: four episodes from this month and four episodes this fall.

Following the events from the previous season, Morgane Alvaro must deal with her personal situation. She needs to have a conversation with Karadec (Mehdi Nebbou) but the latter wants to keep it strictly professional. Their new case concerns a 42-year housewife, mother of two children, found stabbed to death in her kitchen. Oddly, it involves funerals and real estate. Gilles (Bruno Sanches) thinks Morgane seems different, Daphné (Bérangère McNeese) is afraid for her job, Céline (Marie Denarnaud) makes an important announcement and who is the new guy of the police station?

Season 4 of TF1's ratings juggernaut gets off to a flying start. Its premiere begins with a hilarious nod to the sitcoms made by AB Productions (1) thirty years ago. The scenario is brilliant and the surreal sequences look expensive. The ending of the episode is beautiful. Jeremy Lewin (Timothée) and Doudou Masta (David Diallo) have cameos. Thomas Scimeca joins the regular cast as Commandant Fred Prigent. [Favourite of the Month][Spoiler-free review] The fabulous Audrey Fleurot (Les combattantes, Spiral) is back in HPI. The brilliant 8 x 52-minute third season of French private channel TF1's record-breaking comedy/crime drama starts this thursday with episode 1.

Created for TF1 by Alice Chegaray-Breugnot and Nicolas Jean — two of the creators of La Mante — with Stéphane Carrié (1), HPI established itself as a ratings juggernaut in France and Belgium during spring 2021 and confirmed its status with the second season. The series is sold in more than 90 territories. Audrey Fleurot plays Morgane Alvaro, a mother of three (from two different fathers) with a disdain for authority and a 160 I.Q. that makes her HPI (Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, hence the title). She was a cleaning lady at the commissariat de Lille until Commissaire Céline Hazan noticed her abilities and offered her a consultant job in the team of Commandant Adam Karadec. 

The actors alongside Audrey Fleurot are excellent: Mehdi Nebbou, who worked for Steven Spielberg or Ridley Scott and appeared on German TV in Allmen and Tatort and in the U.S. drama Homeland, plays Commandant Karadec. Céline Hazan is played by Marie Denarnaud (Les papillons noirs, La malédiction du volcan). The other regulars are Bruno Sanches (Gilles Vandraud), Bérangère McNeese (Daphné Forestier), Cypriane Gardin (Théa), Noé Vandevoorde (Eliott), Cédric Chevalme (Ludovic Mullier) and Christopher Bayemi (Luther) as Dr. Bonnemain. Clotilde Hesme (Lupin) plays Commandant Roxane Ascher. Swiss actor Jérémy Lewin joins the regular cast as Brigadier Timothée Guichard.

In 2019, almost 8m viewers watched Le Bazar de la Charité on TF1 so HPI could have been a hit on the sole popularity of the versatile Audrey Fleurot. Her chemistry with Mehdi Nebbou is fantastic and they make their characters irresistible. Their talents are aptly served by the quality of both the production and the writing, which ensure a balance between humour and the cases of the week. The eagerly awaited third season, filmed between July 2022 and March 2023, starts with an incredible two-part story. In Symétrie radiale, Morgane Alvaro works as a cleaning lady again and she has not given any news to her colleagues for several months. At the police station, everybody misses her. Gilles and Daphné cannot help showing some dislike towards Céline's new recruit, Brigadier Guichard.

Morgane's obnoxious employer, Émilie Fontaine, complains that she's the victim of a mysterious tormentor. Morgane offers her to investigate in order to find who's behind her predicament. Things get complicated when Émilie vanishes. With Anne Azoulay (Émilie Fontaine), Pierre Rochefort (Maxime Fontaine), Ludovic Lecaille (Lorenzo), etc. In 18 carats, the ex-police consultant is in big trouble as she must face Karadec but also an old adversary. The great French actor Rufus returns as Henri. Created by Alice Chegaray-Breugnot and Nicolas Jean — two of the creators of La Mante — with Stéphane Carrié (1), HPI established itself as a ratings phenomenon in France and Belgium during spring 2021 when its first 8 x 52 minute season broke historic records (2) and ranked amongst the most watched dramas in Europe. Clotilde Hesme (Lupin) joins them as Commandant Roxane Ascher, of the internal affairs. HPI does its own take on Knives Out with 55 kilos. The body of Hélène Lecoq, the recently deceased owner of a frozen food company, has been stolen and there's a statue in her coffin. The woman was terminally ill so why did someone strangle her? Karadec and Morgane investigate in the luxurious manor of the Lecoq family, all suspects in a real game of Cluedo. The commandant tries to guess the plans for his birthday party.

 

This gem was written by Émilie Clamart-Marsollat (Caïn, Une chance de trop), Nicolas Jean, Marion Carnel, Julien Anscutter and Alice Chegaray-Breugnot. The end of the episode is incredible. With Niels Dubost (Father Clément), Francis Leplay (Pierre Lecoq),  Agnès Tassel (Hélène Lecoq), Nicolas Moreau (Olivier Marchand), etc. With the participation of Rufus as Henri. This season, the creative forces behind HPI bring back the Romain Destat story. Romain, Morgane's boyfriend and Théa's father, went missing 16 years ago. Initially, Morgane accepted to work for Céline only if she found out what happened to him. This looked like the arc of the first season until filming was interrupted because of COVID. Serendipity, the magnificent finale of this second season, masterfully fixes the way Romain's fate was handled last year (4). Patrick Chesnais guest stars as Serge Alvaro, Morgane's  card counting father and a crook with a 161 HQ. Both the character and the actor are a fantastic addition to the series.

Fans of the Laurence/Avril/Marlène era of Les petits meurtres d'Agatha Christie will be happy to see François Godart and Dominique Thomas. Olivier Bonjour plays Le Belge.
