MONEY. MURDER. ZURICH. (DER ZÜRICH-KRIMI) - EPISODES 20 & 21: BORCHERT UND DIE STADT IN ANGST 1 & 2 (DAS ERSTE)

Launched
in 2016, the brilliant 90-minute hit crime drama Der Zürich-Krimi returns this month on German pubcaster Das Erste with Borchert und die Stadt in Angst 1 & 2 and Borchert und der Schuss in Herz.

Der Zürich-Krimi is part of the Donnerstags Krimi collection of Das Erste. It stars the great Christian Kohlund (Das Traumhotel, Black Forest Clinic) as the melancholic Thomas Borchert, an "unlicensed attorney" who works in Zurich for lawyer Dominique Kuster and often acts as a private investigator. Ina Paule Klink (Wilsberg) co-stars as Dominique. The other regulars are Pierre Kiwitt as Police captain Marco Furrer, Robert Hunger-Bühler (Dr. Reto Zanger), Susi Banzhaf as Regula Gabrielli (Dominique's assistant) and Yves Wüthrich (Lieutenant Urs Aeggi, Furrer's deputy).

Captain Furrer asks Dominique and Borchert for help as four persons have been murdered within the last ten days in Zurich. Despite the assistance of Ayla Deniz, a profiler and AI expert, the police can't find a connection between the victims but they suspect a serial killer because of a small carboard representation of an eclipse discovered on the crime scenes. The public ignores there's a serial murderer in town and Furrer is in competition with Captain Lueger, a colleague who covets the commander's position. Borchert is himself the target of the "Zürich-Killer".

Written by Wolf Jacoby and directed by Roland Suso Richter, Borchert und die Stadt im Angst celebrates the 20th episode of Der Zürich-Krimi with a suspenseful and moving two-parter blessed with the presence of sister/brother actors Anne Bennent and David Bennent (Die Blechtrommel) as twins Andrea and Jürg Dolmas. Their last TV work together was in a 1986 episode of Derrick. With Oona Devi Liebich (Ayla Deniz), Sebastian Krähenbühl (Lueger), Matthias Weidenhöfer (Moritz Bührer), Robin Sondermann (Timo Brock), Luise Krahl ("Andi"), Linus Gehriger ("Jojo"), Susanne Szell (Verliebt in Berlin) as Susanne Gerber, etc.

Produced by Graf Film with Czech company Mia Film (Allmen) for ARD Degeto and Das Erste. Produced by Klaus Graf, Livia Graf-Bechler, Annemarie Pilgram and Michal Pokorný. Katja Roesch, Ondřej Nerud and Sandra Moll (ARD Degeto) are the production managers. Filmed in Prague and in Switzerland. Music by Michael Klaukien. Cinematography by Andrés Marder. Production services in Switzerland by Christof Neracher. Made with the support of the Czech Film Fund Money. Murder. Zurich (the international title of Der Zürich-Krimi) is available in the U.S. and Canada on the SVOD service MHZ Choice. Distributed by Beta Film

« Antonius Bildermann. Kenne ich seit über 40 Jahren aus dem Sportverein.
- Sie haben mal Sport gemacht?
- Dominique! »

Biotech entrepreneur Antonius Bildermann, an old friend of Borchert, would like Thomas and Dominique to prepare a wedding contract for him as he's about to marry the much younger Mira Gül. The lawyers witness tension between Bildermann and Julian, one of the two sons he had with his ex-wife Stefanie. Julian Bildermann is abducted soon after while jogging and his kidnappers demand 3 million Swiss francs. Thomas warns the police and offers to deliver the ransom. He brings back the young man safe and sound but one of the kidnappers is found dead.

« Jetzt pass mal auf, du Arschloch! Ich schmeiße das Geld ins Wasser so schnell kannst du gar nicht schauen! »

Captain Furrer thinks Julian staged his abduction. Borchert must solve a puzzle made of family secrets. The excellent Borchert und der verlorene Sohn was penned by Rainer Ruppert (Alphateam - Die Lebensretter im OP, Verbotene Liebe) and directed by Roland Suso Richter. The owner of a Zurich nightclub is shot dead in self-defense by the police during a raid. Officer Emmi Arnold, the daughter of Captain Furrer's old mentor, tells Marco that the whole operation was a setup and there was no self-defense. When the young woman is found dead, Furrer is framed for her murder by some crooked colleagues. He asks Dominique for help and Thomas Borchert quickly joins her. The classic plot of Borchert und der Sündenfall is compensated by a cast of quality and the extraordinary presence of Christian Kohlund.

MONEY. MURDER. ZURICH. (DER ZÜRICH-KRIMI) - EPISODE 5: BORCHERT UND DIE MÖRDERISCHE GIER (DAS ERSTE, 2019)

Launched in 2016, the brilliant 90-minute crime drama Der Zürich-Krimi returned this week on German pubcaster Das Erste with Borchert und die tödliche Falle. Borchert und der fatale Irrtum and Borchert und der Tote im See will follow.

Last year, the pubcaster aired two episodes: Borchert und die mörderische Gier and Borchert und der Sündenfall. Episodes 1 to 4 of Money. Murder. Zurich. (the international title of Der Zürich-Krimi) are available in the United States on the SVOD service MHZ Choice.

Der Zürich-Krimi stars the great Christian Kohlund (Das Traumhotel, Black Forest Clinic) as the melancholic Thomas Borchert, an "unlicensed attorney" who works in Zurich for lawyer Dominique Kuster. Ina Paule Klink (Wilsberg) co-stars as Dominique. Felix Kramer plays Police captain Marco Furrer (1). Star lawyer Dr. Reto Zanger, Dominique Kuster's father and an old friend of Thomas, is played by Robert Hunger-Bühler.

Other regulars are Susi Banzhaf as Regula Gabrielli (Dominique's assistant), Andrea Zogg as Beat Bürki-Borchert's "personal" taxi driver, and Yves Wüthrich (Urs Aeggi, Furrer's deputy). Dominique and Regula hear a strange message on the law firm's voicemail. A distraught young man named Julian Stolz requires a legal help in emergency without further precision. As he recklessly rides his motorcycle on the way to her office, he has a traffic accident and falls into coma.

Touched by the situation of Julian because it reminds him of a personal tragedy, Thomas Borchert starts his own investigation. Stolz, an art student, had a strong interest for Islam and he was linked to the mysterious Said Allawi. The police finds out that a dark van with fake diplomatic licence plates is involved in the "accident". Julian's father is a shady businessman who sells illegal antiques. Borchert feels that this case is less about extremism and more about greed.

Written by Wolf Jacoby (the SOKO franchise) and directed by Roland Suso Richter (The Tunnel), Börchert und die mörderische Gier is an effective return to thriller after the more conventional Borchert und die Macht der Gewohneit. Christian Kohlund, whose presence is always impressive, leads an excellent cast including a subtle and charismatic performance by Neil Malik Abdullah (4 Blocks) as Imam Sheik Ibrahim Al-Khatib.

Also with Kai Wiesinger (Heller), Valery Tscheplanowa (Lisa Stolz), Justus Czaja (Julian Stolz), Alireza Bayram (Said Allawi), etc. Produced by Graf Film for ARD Degeto and Das Erste. Co-produced with Mia Film. Produced by Klaus Graf, Annemarie Pilgram and Michal Pokorný. Kirsten Frehse (ARD Degeto) is the line producer.

Music by Michael Klaukien and Andreas Lonardoni. Cinematography by Max Knauer. Filmed in Prague and Zurich. Made with the support of the Czech Film Fund. Distributed by Beta Film.

MONEY. MURDER. ZURICH. (DER ZÜRICH-KRIMI) - EPISODE 7: BORCHERT UND DIE TÖDLICHE FALLE (DAS ERSTE)

Launched in 2016, the brilliant German crime drama Der Zürich-Krimi returned yesterday on Das Erste. This spring, the pubcaster will show three new 90-minute TV movies: Borchert und die tödliche Falle, Borchert und der fatale Irrtum and Borchert und der Tote im See.

Der Zürich-Krimi stars the great Christian Kohlund (Das Traumhotel, Black Forest Clinic) as Thomas Borchert, an "unlicensed attorney" who works in Zurich for lawyer Dominique Kuster. Ina Paule Klink (Wilsberg) co-stars as Dominique (1). Robert Hunger-Bühler plays Dr. Reto Zanger, a star lawyer who's also Dominique Kuster's father and an old friend of Thomas. Other regulars are Pierre Kiwitt (Police captain Marco Furrer), Susi Banzhaf as Regula Gabrielli, Andrea Zogg as Beat Bürki-Borchert's "personal" taxi driver, and Yves Wüthrich (Urs Aeggi). Thomas Kügel returns as Major Beat Wenger.

Reto, who's busy with a mega business deal, asks Dominique to replace him in court at short notice. Alexander Böni, her client, is serving a prison sentence for the robbery of an armoured truck but he's due to be released for good behaviour. The hearing doesn't turn out as planned when Böni takes everyone hostage, including Dominique Kuster, with a gun which was  hidden under his table. Captain Furrer, who arrives first at the courthouse with his deputy, must act as the negotiator in spite of his feelings for Dominique.

Alexander Böni demands 2 million U.S. dollars and a helicopter but Borchert starts to wonder about the real motives behind the actions of the hostage taker, who's a family man with a young son. While Thomas races against the clock to find answers, he discovers that Reto Zanger may hold some of them. Written by Wolf Jacoby (the SOKO franchise) and directed by Roland Suso Richter (The Tunnel), Börchert und die tödliche Falle is a most effective and truly gripping thriller served by excellent actors.

With Golo Euler (Alexander Böni), Kathleen Gallego Zapata (Marie-Louise Mildenberger), Matthias Bundschuh (Dr. Kugler), Stephan A. Töller (Peter Zuber), Torsten Ranft (Hermann Oehli), Christian Bojidar (Sherdan Berashi), Maike Juttendonk (Lucie Schmitt), Jürg Löw (Paul Loitner), etc. Produced by Graf Film for ARD Degeto and Das Erste. Co-produced with Mia Film. Produced by Klaus Graf, Annemarie Pilgram and Michal Pokorný. Kirsten Frehse (ARD Degeto) is the line producer.

MONEY. MURDER. ZURICH. (DER ZÜRICH-KRIMI) - EPISODES 3 & 4: BORCHERT UND DIE LETZTE HOFFNUNG & BORCHERT UND DIE MACHT DER GEWOHNHEIT (DAS ERSTE - 2018, MHZ CHOICE)

Launched in 2016 on German pubcaster Das Erste, Der Zürich-Krimi is a brilliant 90-minute crime drama. It started in the United States on the SVOD service MHZ Choice last month as Money. Murder. Zurich. (its international title).

Borcherts Fall and Borcherts Abrechnung (Episodes 1 and 2) premiered on June 25. They were followed by Borchert und die letzte Hoffnung and Borchert und die Macht der Gewohnheit (Episodes 3 and 4) on July 2.

Der Zürich-Krimi - Episodes 1 & 2: Borcherts Fall & Borcherts Abrechnung:

https://tattard2.blogspot.com/2019/06/money-murder-zurich-der-zurich-krimi.html

Thomas Borchert, played by the great Christian Kohlund, works now for Dominique Kuster (Ina Paule Klink, since the second episode) as an "unlicensed attorney". When architect Anton Schneider dies of multiple sclerosis, his wife Louise and his daughter Viola consult Dominique and Thomas. Viola Schneider believes that Dr. Hoffer, her father's neurologist, made serious mistakes. Hoffer's lawyer, who's none other than Reto Zanger (Dominique's father and Borchert's old friend), asks for an autopsy. Its results reveal that Anton died of a huge dose of Pentobarbital and show that the man was given toxic substances on a long period.

Louise admits that she assisted Anton in a suicide but some other things remain unexplained. Borchert gets involved in the investigation of police captain Furrer. He uncovers the doubtful methods of a pharmaceutical company and, as if his flu wasn't enough, a mysterious and sinister paramedic tries to kill him. Written by Wolf Jacoby, Borchert und die letzte Hoffung brings back Christian Kohlund and Ina Paule Klink in a touching and profound thriller. Robert Hunger-Bühler (Reto Zanger) and Felix Kramer (Captain Furrer) return. Susi Banzhaf replaces Anita Vulesica as Dominique's assistant Regula Gabrielli.

Also with Jenny Schily (Louise Schneider), Lucie Heinze (Viola Schneider), Angela Roy (Marlene Vogt), Beat Marti (Anton Schneider), Nicki von Templehoff (Dr. Markus Hoffer), Christian Hockenbrick (Einstein) as Bernd Kübler, etc. Penned by Wolf Jacoby & Daniel Douglas Wissmann, Borchert und die Macht der Gewohneit is an enjoyable but more conventional episode. Dominique is the "first-hour lawyer" of Tim Ritter, a petty criminal. He's accused of having murdered a wealthy building contractor during the burglary of his house with a friend. Maybe Thomas needs a break between two conspiracies.

Also starring Ludwig Simon (Tim), Jacob Meinecke (Robin), Mercedes Müller (Gwen), Angela Roy (Marlene Vogt), Julika Jenkins (Vera Thalmann), Anian Zollner (Bernard Thalmann), etc. Both TV movies, directed by Roland Suso Richter (The Tunnel), were filmed between April and June 2017 in Zurich and Prague. Produced by Graf Film for ARD Degeto and Das Erste. Co-produced with Mia Film. Produced by Annemarie Pilgram and Klaus Graf. Michal Pokorný (Mia Film) and Kirsten Frehse (ARD Degeto) are the line producers.

Music by Michael Klaukien & Andreas Lonardoni. Mad World performed by Klaus Pruenster. As Time Goes By (from Casablanca) performed by Chris Ingham. Cinematography by Max Knauer.  Made with the support of the Czech Film Fund. Distributed by Beta Film.

MONEY. MURDER. ZURICH. (DER ZÜRICH-KRIMI) - EPISODES 1 & 2: BORCHERTS FALL & BORCHERTS ABRECHNUNG (DAS ERSTE - 2016, MHZ CHOICE)

[Favourite of the Month] Launched in 2016 on German pubcaster Das Erste, Der Zürich-Krimi is a brilliant 90-minute crime drama. It starts in the United States on the SVOD service MHZ Choice this week as Money. Murder. Zurich. (its international title).

Borcherts Fall and Borcherts Abrechnung (Episodes 1 and 2) premiere today, followed by Borchert und die letzte Hoffnung and Borchert und die Macht der Gewohnheit (Episodes 3 and 4) on July 2.

Disgraced lawyer Thomas Borchert returns in Switzerland after years spent in Frankfurt, following the FonSonic financial scandal. One of his colleagues, Frederic Kuhn, committed suicide and the other, Enrico Strasser, is at large. Thomas takes refuge in Zurich, his hometown, and settles in a trailer on his parents property with the intention to clear his name. Produced by Germano-Austrian company Graf Film for ARD Degeto and Das Erste, Der Zürich-Krimi stars the great Swiss actor Christian Kohlund as the melancholic Thomas Borchert, an antihero in the mold of Horst Schimanski or Josef Matula.

Christian Kohlund's impressive presence on television includes several guest appearances in German crime drama classics Derrick and Der Alte, the French co-produced miniseries La Nouvelle Malle des Indes (1982), the role of Dr. Vollmers in Black Forest Clinic (Die Schwarzwaldklinik, 1985-1989), French miniseries Maria Vandamme (1989), Australian TV series Bony (1990), By Way of the Stars (1992),  Anna Maria - Eine Frau geht ihren Weg (1994-1997), Nancherrow (1999) or Das Traumhotel (2004-2014). Christian Kohlund also plays in Der Bergdoktor (launched in 2008) since last year.

In the excellent Borcherts Fall (2016), written by Verena Kurth and directed by Matthias Steurer, Filipina nanny Amihan Singh goes into hiding with a little boy named Daniel Frisch, the foster son of Bea and Urs Frisch. Amihan is arrested after stealing food on the market. Thomas Borchert tries to help her and he's put under arrest too. He calls star lawyer Dr. Reto Zanger, an old friend who advises him to contact his daughter, Dominique Kuster. Idealistic, she doesn't want Borchert for client but she accepts to assist Amihan Singh. Max Friedländer, an investigative journalist, hunts down Thomas in hope of a big story.

When Daniel is kidnapped, the former lawyer follows a lead to a couple of friends, real estate developer Matthias Duplessis and his wife Charlotte. Isabell Kuhn, Frederic's widow, blames Borchert for her husband's death. He's not sure if he can trust Reto and Police Captain Furrer doesn't like him. Dominique Kuster is played by Katrin Bauerfeind in the first episode. Ina Paule Klink (Wilsberg) replaced her from Borcherts Abrechnung. Penned by Wolf Jacoby (from an idea by Verena Kurth) and helmed by Carlo Rola (Rosa Roth), this second episode sees Thomas Borchert in big trouble.

Borchert awaits his extradition in a jail cell because of the FonSonic case. He receives the visit of his ex-boss, Horst Zeidler, who offers him a dirty deal. Dominique refuses to represent Thomas, Furrer is quite hostile and Max Friedländer is still after him. He's determined to establish the truth on FonSonic but neither Reto Zanger nor Matthias Duplessis ease his task. Someone wants him and Dominique dead and only a figure from the past has all the answers. Borcherts Abrechnung is a perfect thriller which allows Christian Kohlund to develop further aspects of his character.

Both TV movies were filmed between November 2014 and February 2015 in Zurich and in... Prague. Also starring Swiss actor Robert Hunger-Bühler (Reto Zanger), American actress Leslie Malton as Charlotte Duplessis, Richard van Weyden (Matthias Duplessis), Felix Kramer (Captain Furrer), Dominik Weber (Max Friedländer), Valentina Sauca (Bea Frisch), Michael Lott (Urs Frisch), Kotti Yun (Amihan Singh), Denis Ungewitter (Daniel), Maria Boettner (Isabell Kuhn), Regula Grauwiller (Vera Laurent), Iván Gallardo (Juan Pablo), Anita Vulesica (Regula Gabrielli), Janek Rieke (Frederic Kuhn), Markus Boysen (Horst Zeidler), etc.
